Julia Laverne Milburn June 9, 1940 - February 27, 2015

Julia Laverne Milburn, 74, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Integris Hospice House. She defeated lung cancer, and valiantly battled the painful effects of its treatment for seven years. She was born June 9, 1940, to Roy A. and Prudence E. Choat Milburn in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, but spent most of her life in Oklahoma City. She graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1958 and earned an Associate's Degree in Accounting from Oklahoma City Community College. Survivors include her brother Charles and wife Peggy, nephew Jeffrey and wife Patsy, niece Gina and great-niece Madelyn, all of Missouri; her sister Ava and husband Joe of OKC, niece Jennifer and husband Steven Miller and great-niece Danielle, niece Elizabeth Warren and husband Zach Douglas of Austin, Texas; and many wonderful cousins and friends. She made lifelong friends wherever she worked. Julia began her career at L&S Bearing, and was an office manager at Kerr-McGee Oil for 24 years. After a brief retirement, she worked at the Oklahoma County Treasurer's office and the Mid-Del Group Home and even served as a home health care aide. She was a lifelong member of South Lee United Methodist Church and attended its closing ceremony in December, 2014. She was a life member of Eastern Star – Fidelis Chapter, and was a member of the Laureate Chi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for over 50 years. Julia also enjoyed time with her friends in their canasta club. Julia had a passion for travel, and journeyed to every continent but Antarctica. She also loved ballroom dancing, reading, movies, and Elvis Presley. While she never married, she loved her nieces and nephews passionately and was "second mom" to her special family members: Ronne, Jennifer, Sharon, Elizabeth, Ian, Sasha, and Danielle. Julia was adopted by her sorority sisters; they traveled together and walked through both the good and hard times of life. Julia's family would like to thank the team of doctors who cared for her so diligently over the years. They include Dr. C. Brian Williams, Dr. Gregory Parker, Dr. Azhar Khan, Dr. Mel Clark, and Dr. Aly Aly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Julia's name to Oklahoma United Methodist Circle of Care, 1501 NW 24th, Suite 214, Oklahoma City, OK, 73106. Services to celebrate her life will be 2:00 PM, Monday, March 2, 2015 in the chapel of Buchanan Funeral Service.
